Jingle Bells

First semester of college: check.
With finals week done, I have officially finished off my first semester of college. I must say, it was everything I imagined it would be, yet completely different. I absolutely love the freedom it affords and I even liked my classes for the most part, but I was completely unprepared for the actual academic part in all honesty. I assumed I would be able to float through just like I did in high school, but it wasn’t really the case. I mean, to an extent I was able to, but that gets me Cs, where as in high school it would get me As and Bs. I can’t get Cs and expect to keep Hope. Luckily, I believe I managed to get out of my first semester with only one C and hopefully Bs and an A. Certainly not what I was hoping for, but it will have to do.

I was also honestly expecting my relationships to change or something. I was more than expecting it, I was anticipating it. Instead, I’ve pretty much just gotten to be a lot better friends with the people I already knew, especially my roommate, and happened to make a few new friends, but mostly through either hockey or friends of the original friends. I now know why some of my friends from high school opted for the out of state universities. There are new people and new friends to be made, and if you go somewhere that’s essentially just a transplant of your high school like I did, then you’re not forced to leave your comfort zone and meet new people. That’s not to say I don’t love my friends, I just wish I was forced to make a few new real friends, rather than the simple acquaintances I’ve met.

I went and bought a cheap corn cob pipe the other day. I love it, though perhaps a bit too much in all honesty. I really bought it for CabinFest, but I’ve already smoked it a few times with D. Speaking of CabinFest, I hate how the whole thing’s been thrown up in the air all of the sudden. We had like 7 confirmed people, now we’re down to maybe 4 for sure people and a few random last minute invites. Oh well, regardless it will still be fun.
